Project Paperless: Camp is Making Planet-Friendly Changes!

by Meghan Hill, Director of Business Operations & Alumni Relations

At Camp, we’re all deeply connected to our natural environment, therefore we’re forever striving to uncover ways that we can leave a lighter ecological footprint, and help protect the lands and waters that sustain us all.

Since offering online registration, we have seen the vast majority of our camper families make a transition away from paper registration forms – now, more than 95% of our registrations are paperless!

Why stop there?

As part of this continued effort, we have decided to take it a step further, and begin practicing an even greener alternative associated with the registration process.

Beginning this year, we’re aiming for a near-paperless existence!

 You guessed it –

* No more paper Medical Forms!

* No more paper Information Forms!

* No more paper Airport contracts!

We will now be accepting electronic PDF versions of Medical Forms, Information Forms and Waivers, emailed to: rcnurse@ssymca.org and Airport Contacts to campflights@ssymca.org

Please join us as we think and act greener. With your help, we can achieve cooperative conservation at Camp!

Did you know…

  • It takes more than 1½ cups of water to make one sheet of paper.
  • Over 40% of wood pulp goes toward the production of paper.
  • Reducing paper use reduces greenhouse gases: 40 reams of paper = 1.5 acres of pine forest absorbing carbon for a year.
  • The average office worker uses 10,000 sheets of copy paper each year.
  • The United States alone, which has less than 5% of the world’s population, consumes 30% of the world’s paper.
  • Printing and writing paper equals about one-half of U.S. paper production.
  • Printing inks also cause damage to the environment. The ink is made with toxic chemicals and the containers usually aren’t recyclable.
