Winter has truly settled in at the farm! The vegetable beds are under a blanket of snow, the greenhouse tomatoes are ripening in a box in the kitchen, and the animals are pretty perplexed as to why the ground is so cold.
We outfitted the goats and chickens’ pens with heated water sources so their water won’t freeze during the really cold days and nights; the chickens also got a heat-lamp in their coop and the goats got an extra insulating layer of hay around the edges of their house.
Although they’re a little wimpy about coming outside when the snow is actively coming down, all the critters are willing to come outside once the snow has stopped, so they can stretch their legs and search for the tastiest morsels of food.
And the rabbit is doing just fine: he got moved inside the toasty greenhouse for the season!
