Fresh from the Farm

Camp Burgess and Hayward Tue 08, 2013

The chickens are getting excited (or they would be, if they had brains bigger than bird brains)… the high school students from the Cape Cod Collaborative who come to Camp for an alternative learning program are in the process of expanding the chicken run! From ordering lumber over the phone to digging postholes to assembling and installing the fence panels, the students are learning real-life skills that will help qualify them for employment after graduating from high school. And the expansion will nearly double the space in the chicken run, meaning happier hens. Everyone wins!

Here’s the staging area, with the completed fence panels waiting to be installed:

The students also got a feel for Cape Cod geology digging post holes through sand and rocks!
