Camp Burgess and Hayward Wed 30, 2014

I love a lot of parts of Camp Hayward (probably a good quality in a camp director). One of my favorites has to be Airbands. Airbands is an all-camp lip syncing contest and is a beautiful program for an all-girls camp. Recently Burgess has picked it up, but it is a long standing tradition at Hayward. Every cabin coming together, some more easily than others, to create a memorable performance.

My first ever airbands was the classic battle of the bands format. This is where you play songs from two different groups back and forth. The most traditional example of this is the N’Sync vs. Backstreet Boys throw down. Although the 1998 Cabin Lee airbands took a feminine approach with Spice Girls vs. All Saints. Not my finest airbands number, as I had little to no idea what I was doing, but hey it was a start.

I also remember my last airbands performance as a camper in Toussant Hall (the original Toussant Hall at that). I had a unibrow drawn on with marker and my friend Elise has a gelled back mullet. A picture exists in an old camp yearbook somewhere. It will not be posted on the internet for self preservation purposes.

I look forward to seeing some spectacular performances this summer on Cape Cod.
