MEET OUR 2015 FEBRUARY VACATION TRIP LEADERS!
Each year, youth ages 12-17 have the opportunity during their February Vacation break from school to experience the beauty and excitement of New Hampshire. This year’s program will run from February 15-20 and is a wonderful mix of skiing/snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, and scenic traveling. We ski/snowboard at four New Hampshire mountains: Attitash, Mount Cranmore, Bretton Woods, and Loon. In the evenings, we ice skate, snow tube and finish the week with a pizza party! For five nights, we reside in the White Mountains Hostel, which is a renovated New England farmhouse located in Conway, NH. This year’s adventure will be led by two seasoned Camp Burgess & Hayward gurus, Ariel and Rachel! We are all looking forward to a fun-filled week!
Ariel Sca
lise
Ariel has a passion for outdoor adventure and learning. She has a range of personal and professional experiences with the Y and feels that this mission-driven organization is the perfect place to share her passion by facilitating fun, new experiences that inspire growth. Ariel was a 3-season Outdoor Education Guru for Camp Burgess & Hayward in 2013 and also worked as a Teen Adventure Trip Leader during the summer months. We are very excited to announce that Ariel will be returning to camp this spring as the Camp Burgess Farm Apprentice! Given her range of meaningful experiences working with youth, Ariel is looking forward to sharing a week in the wintery mountains of New Hampshire with this year’s group of teens!
Rachel Calderara
Rachel is pumped to spend a week on the slopes with a group of teens this winter! Although she tends to avoid the black diamonds, she’s been skiing since she was six and loves being outdoors all year round. Rachel has worked a variety of jobs at camp over the past two years, including Outdoor Education Guru, Teen Adventure Trip Leader and Kayak Naturalist. As an outdoor educator, she’s had the opportunity to mentor and inspire our youth from coast to coast in the US. She is currently an AmeriCorps member in the Massachusetts Land Initiative for Tomorrow program, engaging the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts in land protection and outdoor recreation. Rachel greatly appreciates the beauty and diversity of life, and hopes to continue empowering others to reach beyond their perceived limitations for the rest of her career.
