Join us for our “First Dip” community plunge into Spectacle Pond!
The “First Dip” serves as our annual event and fundraiser, providing substantial support for our Campership Fund, which makes our programming accessible to all children – regardless of their financial circumstances.
At Camp Burgess & Hayward, we are so proud of the fact that we incorporate service learning and social responsibility into our programming. It is our intention to actively foster children’s charitable tendencies by offering opportunities for them to make an impactful and lasting contribution in the world. We feel strongly that the “First Dip” engages our campers and Trips participants in a cause that is near and dear to their hearts, and allows them to give back in a meaningful way. As a child, what could be better than to know that you played an important part in providing a life-changing experience to another child?
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to send kids to Camp this summer – we are urging our Campers and Trips participants to get behind the cause!

Welcome Newbies
We will begin the day by welcoming those new to the Camp community: our returning campers and staff will share some of the magic of Camp with campers and Trips participants joining us for the first time in 2016!
“First Dip” of 2016 into Spectacle Pond
As a community, we will take the plunge into the sparkling waters of Spectacle Pond, in support of the Campership Fund!
Camp Community Celebration
In celebration of our collective efforts, we will warm up at one of our famous campfire cookouts!
There are many ways to participate, whether you want to take the plunge or not!
• Raise funds the good old fashioned way, with our First Dip Pledge Form;
• Raise funds electronically with a personal giving page;
• Support a “First Dip” participant, by making a donation in their name or on their behalf;
• Select one of our First Dip Sponsorship Opportunities for area businesses and organizations;
• Attend the event and cookout for a $25+ donation made online or at the event.
Camp puts the “FUN” in FUNdraising!
Not only is this event a blast – this year, we have some amazing prizes awaiting our FUNdraisers!
• Anyone who raises $25 or more, will be entered into a raffle to win a “First Dip” event t-shirt!
• Anyone who raises $250 or more will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Camp Store!
• Anyone who raises $500 or more will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Camp Store – and, will be entered into a raffle for a PIZZA-MOVIE NIGHT for his/her cabin or Trip in 2016 (we will pull 3 winners – 1 Hayward camper, 1 Burgess camper and 1 Trip participant).

As a branch of the South Shore YMCA, we are a charitable organization, and this year we will provide over $250,000 in “Camperships” – financial assistance for camp, teen adventure and outdoor education programs. Many families are unable to afford these programs, which means children may miss the opportunity to immerse themselves in an enriching community where they may build character, develop independence, garner self-esteem and most importantly, realize a sense of belonging.
