The Songs We (May) Know and Love
by Meghan Hill, Director of Business Operations and Alumni Relations
It is really something when you stop and consider the historical relevance embedded in certain song lyrics – lyrics, which often turn out to relay factually profound stories.
When I was digging through dust-covered boxes of photos in the basement below the Administrative Offices this morning, I came upon a Camp Burgess “Song Book,” circa 1950’s, which had been copied on a stencil duplicator (mimeograph).

Camp songs are part of the fabric of camp culture, immortalizing the camp experience while building spirit, community and morale. Whether the words contained in the Song Book are literal or anecdotal, you can bet they resonate with Burgess Alumni around the world, coming across as familiar and inspirational.
Included in the Song Book repertoire is “Burgess Booster Song.”
Pull off your coat and collar,
Get to work and push and holler,
And, we’ll put Camp Burgess on top
Every booster boosting,
Not a rooster roosting,
And we’ll never, never stop.
