Burgess and Hayward “Road Crew” – Another Successful Day of Volunteering
By Asa Gallagher
Our second Burgess and Hayward “Road Crew” event of the season was a huge success. On Saturday, November 23rd, 16 members of our camp community, including campers and their parents, joined us for a morning of volunteering at the Cambridge Boys and Girls Club. There were another 150 volunteers at the event from the Boston area. The “Road Crew” spent three hours helping to build colorful lap desks for children in surrounding homeless shelters. We cut fabric and foam, glued and stapled the various sections together, and decorated the final pieces with stencil and free hand designs. In the end, each participant was proud to say they created a desk from scratch that children will now be able to use as work stations. The “Road Crew” worked extremely hard during the event and had a great time spending the morning together as a group.
