We recently put together a setup of an electric net fence and a solar-powered charger to create a moveable goat pen. Why? It’s a win-win: the goats get new scenery, a more varied diet, and exercise exploring a new area, all while clearing back areas of dense shrubs and bushes for us to create new program spaces or trails. The goats are finally starting to earn the title of “Working Farm Animals” around Camp Burgess!
And once our little lambs are large enough to hang out with the goats, they’ll be able to join the moveable herd. Goats and sheep make a dynamic duo: goats are browsers, so they prefer the higher shrubs and leaves, while sheep are grazers, so they prefer the low-lying, more tender plants. Together, they can clear an area in no time!
Here’s the group snacking in their first pen:

And here’s Hulk chowing down on some baby oak leaves — delicious!
