What does camp mean to you?

Maria Robins-Somerville, a counselor  at Camp Hayward, writes about her experience as a staff member and camper.

“When I tell people that deciding to work at Hayward was the best decision I’ve ever made some people look at me like I’m crazy but still I believe it more than I believe almost anything… the opportunity to work in such a challenging, creative, meaningful, supportive  and exhilarating place. It has helped me become a better listener, leader, student, friend and sister in ways that I think I’m only just starting to realize. I owe to camp so much of my ability to be organized, to follow my passions, and to let people know how important they are. I know this is all cheesy but it is all more than important to the way I think and carry the happiness I create over the summer with me throughout the rest of the slightly less awesome seasons… I hope to be back for a summer full of new adventures and campers ready to have their lives changed for the better the way mine did starting in Robin Hood in 2006.”
