All the signs are pointing to summer: the counselors are here, the pond is warm enough to swim in (well, almost), and the tomatoes are growing like weeds!
We’ve got a new support system for our tomatoes this year, since our classic tomato cages disappeared to the Adventure Trips garden and the Outdoor Kitchen garden. Made with metal mesh and stakes, the new system at the farm helps hold up the tomato plants as they reach their mature height of 4 or 5 feet, keeping the fruit up off the ground out of reach of slugs and other critters. The openings in the mesh are big enough to reach through for harvesting, and the whole system is durable enough to disassemble, store, and reuse next year.
We can’t wait until those delicious tomatoes start showing up!
